🇺🇸 Trump Hosts African Leaders for Trade Talks

In partnership with

Happy Thursday, Patriots!

President Trump just fired the next shot in his global trade revolution—slapping a 50% tariff on ALL Brazilian imports starting August 1.

The move comes in response to Brazil’s “unfair trade,” attacks on free speech, and persecution of Bolsonaro.

Trump isn’t playing games. He warned Brazil that any retaliation will be met with even higher penalties — and launched an investigation into their shady digital practices.

This comes on the heels of Trump raising tariffs on six more nations, proving once again: America First is back, and it means business.

Stay tuned. The Trump Trade Doctrine is rewriting the rules.

President Trump welcomed five African leaders to the White House this week for high-level discussions on trade partnerships and economic opportunities. The meeting showcased Trump's commitment to securing beneficial deals that put America first while tapping into Africa's vast natural resources and markets.

While critics continue their usual complaints about his direct approach, Trump remains laser-focused on delivering results for American workers and businesses. The president praised these nations' potential for partnership, noting their valuable minerals, oil deposits, and strategic importance in global trade.

As Trump reshapes international commerce through his tariff policies and strategic negotiations, he's proving once again that his business-minded approach to diplomacy gets results. Just months into his second term, these kinds of productive meetings demonstrate why voters chose experience and deal-making ability over empty political rhetoric.

Check out all the latest developments and more below!

⚖️ Trump Assassination Attempt: Six Secret Service Agents Suspended
Six U.S. Secret Service agents have been suspended for their conduct during the assassination attempt on President Trump on July 13, 2024. The bullet fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks grazed President Trump’s ear, and firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed in the attack, with others injured. An independent review by the Department of Homeland Security determined that the Secret Service's performance was lacking and that without reforms, a similar incident could happen again. The review criticized the Secret Service for becoming bureaucratic, complacent, and static despite evolving risks and technology. The suspensions come just four days before the one-year anniversary of the assassination attempt, signaling ongoing scrutiny and the push for accountability within the agency.

🛡️ Trump Opposes Democrat Bill on ICE Officer Identification
President Trump strongly criticized Senators Cory Booker and Alex Padilla for proposing the VISIBLE Act, which mandates that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers display legible identification and prohibits face coverings during public-facing enforcement actions. During a White House meeting with African leaders, he stated that the bill’s supporters “hate our country” and praised ICE and CBP officers as “great patriots” doing a tremendous job. He argued that the legislation endangers officers by exposing them to recognition, potentially disrupting their personal lives, while noting that Democrats do not object to masked protesters on college campuses. The VISIBLE Act, introduced by Booker and Padilla, applies to public enforcement actions but exempts covert or non-public operations. President Trump expressed surprise at the senators’ support for the bill, suggesting it reflects their negative view of the nation.

🚀 Trump Appoints Sean Duffy as Interim NASA Chief
President Trump announced on Truth Social that he is appointing Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to serve as the interim administrator of NASA. Duffy replaces Janet Petro, who has served as acting NASA administrator since January, following President Trump’s withdrawal of Jared Isaacman’s nomination in May. President Trump praised Duffy’s performance at the Department of Transportation, highlighting his work on modernizing air traffic control systems and rebuilding infrastructure like roads and bridges. Duffy accepted the role enthusiastically, posting on X, “Honored to accept this mission. Time to take over space. Let’s launch.” President Trump emphasized that Duffy will be a fantastic leader for NASA, even if only for a short period, given the agency’s growing importance in national priorities.

⛪ Trump Applauds IRS Rule Change for Church Endorsements
President Trump praised the IRS for rescinding a rule that barred churches and tax-exempt organizations from making political endorsements, a decision he described as protecting religious liberty and free speech. The new IRS guidance, issued on Wednesday, allows these organizations to engage in political endorsements without risking their tax-exempt status. President Trump stated that this change fulfills a promise he made to evangelical and religious voters during his campaign. He criticized the previous restriction, known as the Johnson Amendment, for unfairly limiting churches while allowing other groups to make political statements. The rule change is seen as a significant victory for religious organizations seeking to participate more actively in political discourse.

đź”” Trump Hosts African Leaders to Discuss Trade Partnerships đź””

President Trump hosted five African leaders at the White House for a working lunch in the State Dining Room, welcoming the presidents of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal to discuss expanding economic partnerships. The administration's approach centers on what President Trump describes as working "tirelessly to forge new economic opportunities involving both the United States and many African nations," positioning Africa as a region with "great economic potential, like few other places, in many ways."

President Trump praised the visiting nations as "very vibrant places with very valuable land, great minerals, great oil deposits and wonderful people," while emphasizing that long-term economic partnerships would prove "far more effective, and sustainable, and beneficial than anything else that we could be doing together." The president assured the five countries that they were unlikely to face the tariffs he has imposed on other nations as part of his broader trade war strategy.

During the meeting, Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani focused their discussions on minerals and rare earths, with Nguema asserting that "we are not poor countries we are rich countries" when referencing rare earth resources. Nguema further explained that Gabon seeks partners to help develop its raw mineral resources locally but requires significant energy investments to process materials domestically, advocating for "win-win partnerships."

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye promoted his country's tourism investment opportunities, including a golf course project that would be only a six-hour flight from New York, suggesting President Trump could visit to demonstrate his golfing skills. The US International Development Finance Corporation announced it would provide project development funding for the Banio Potash Mine in Mayumba, Gabon, helping the country reduce its dependence on imports.

President Trump encouraged the nations to increase defense investments through purchases from United States manufacturers in their ongoing fight against what he called the "big problem" of terrorism in Africa. He also indicated that immigration would be a topic of discussion, particularly concerning "high rates of people overstaying visas" and the potential development of Safe Third Country Agreements with these nations.

A notable moment arose when President Trump complimented Liberian President Joseph Boakai on his English-speaking abilities, asking "where did you learn to speak so beautifully?" despite English being Liberia's official language. Boakai responded that he learned English in Liberia, prompting President Trump to remark, "That's very interesting. I have people at this table who can't speak nearly as well."

The exchange drew criticism from some Liberians and African observers who viewed the comments as condescending, particularly given Liberia's history as a nation founded by freed American slaves in the 19th century. Liberian youth advocate Archie Tamel Harris expressed feeling insulted, stating that President Trump's question suggested that "people in the west still see Africans as people in villages who are not educated."

However, Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti defended the interaction, explaining that "there was no offense" from the Liberian president's perspective and that President Trump was recognizing "the American influence on our English in Liberia." White House officials described the comment as a "heartfelt compliment" and emphasized President Trump's commitment to African partnerships.

President Trump's senior advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, stated that "the continent of Africa has never had such a friend in the White House as they do in President Trump," while the administration has shifted away from what officials called "a charity-based foreign aid model" toward partnerships with nations that show "both the ability and willingness to help themselves."

The five countries represented at the meeting constitute a small fraction of US-Africa trade but possess significant untapped natural resources, with Senegal and Mauritania serving as important transit and origin countries for migration issues of concern to the Trump administration. African Union officials have questioned how Africa could deepen trade ties with the US under what they describe as "abusive" tariff proposals and visa restrictions largely targeting African travelers.

The administration's top diplomat for Africa, Ambassador Troy Fitrell, has dismissed allegations of unfair US trade practices, while President Trump is expected to announce dates for a broader summit with African leaders, possibly in September around the time of the United Nations General Assembly. President Trump's diplomatic outreach to African leaders represents a strategic pivot toward economic partnership, positioning these resource-rich nations as key allies in his broader vision of American-centered global trade relationships while navigating the complex legacy of historical US-Africa relations.

🌩️ Representative Eric Swalwell called for an investigation into whether President Trump’s proposed cuts to the National Weather Service in 2017 and 2019 impacted flood warnings during recent Texas flooding. Swalwell suggested that these budget reductions may have compromised the agency’s ability to issue timely alerts, potentially exacerbating the disaster’s effects. He emphasized the need to examine if the cuts left Texas communities less prepared for the severe weather event.

🛡️ A group of migrants has filed a lawsuit against President Trump’s administration, alleging that his deportation plans are discriminatory and violate their constitutional rights. The lawsuit claims that the executive actions unfairly target migrants based on race and national origin, seeking a federal court injunction to halt the deportations.
